If I were the Art Teacher, this would earn you an “A” — I hope Daniel likes it.
Is there a reason for your use of gouache lately? Is it artistic whim or part of a larger artistic program you’re working on?
I’ve always loved gouache because it’s really flexible as a medium. You can use it like watercolor or acrylic and it’s really matte. It’s one of my traditional materials. And now that I have a proper studio, I’m working my way back into painting. I’ll be making waves as studies for a while. You’ll see.
Portraiture via watercolor/gouache is not easy. Yet there it is, a color gesture drawing of this young man. It works in every way. He looks at us, the viewers, through your drawing and across time. I marvel at your craft.
Thanks, Dennis. Very kind of you.
