I’m refreshed to see here Achebe. I read When Things Fall Apart over 25years ago and very often find myself making reference to it in thoughts about the world. I was sad to make reference to the work last week when my conversation partner understood the work to be a self help book and never heard of Achebe.

Thanks, Michael. I read it after reading Edward Said’s, “Orientalism”. I had been at a dinner party and my art dealer accused me of being an orientalist. He was right. How I came to terms with that and changed is one of the threads in my book about prison that I’m still(!) writing. Only about a third of my friends read so I limit my literary references to them.
